Greater LA MFA features approximately 55 visually striking and conceptually diverse works in a range of mediums by students representing 15 graduate programs throughout the greater Los Angeles area. The exhibition culminates with a film screening held in the University Theatre on the evening of the closing reception of the exhibition. The screening will show 15 short films by as many artists, making it an unprecedented gathering of student films from LA’s world-renowned film programs. Organized and curated by CSULB students, the exhibition and screening encourages dialogue among the young generation of LA artists/students and the public as they have the chance to view the diversity and commonality among work from these programs: American Film Institute, Art Center College of Design, Cal Arts, Chapman University, CSU Fullerton, CSU Los Angeles, CSU Northridge, Claremont Graduate University, Otis College of Art and Design, UC Irvine, UCLA, UC San Diego, UC Riverside, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and USC. |

Works to be seen in the invitational encompass diversity in subject and media, as well as in subtlety and sensation. Eric Medine’s three-dimensional z-prints compare Paris, Texas and Paris, France on a minuscule scale. Tony Do suspends an orb of hundreds of conserved locusts in an magnetic field. Julie Lequin’s 5-minute video loop depicts the artist simultaneously giving and receiving a self-deprecating and self-extolling speech lesson. Also on display are three site-specific works, and on the evening of the opening, performances by three artists will be presented.
